After working as an actuarial analyst for Towers Watson in Montreal, Prof. Garrido received a Masters from\u00a0Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Louvain<\/a><\/u>, in Belgium, and his PhD in 1987 from the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences at the\u00a0University of Waterloo<\/a><\/u>, Canada. He is an Associate of the\u00a0Society of Actuaries<\/a><\/u>\u00a0and of the\u00a0Canadian Institute of Actuaries<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(CIA). His research interests are in Risk Theory, Loss Models, Insurance Statistics, Credibility Theory, Risk Management and Credit Risk, Machine Learning in Insurance, Predictive Modelling and Robust Statistics.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Garrido has written more than 50 articles in international refereed journals and conference proceedings. He is Associate Editor of several journals, including\u00a0Insurance: Mathematics and Economics<\/a><\/u><\/i>\u00a0and the\u00a0North American Actuarial Journal<\/a><\/u><\/i>, as well as an Editor of the\u00a0European Actuarial Journal<\/a><\/u><\/i>\u00a0and of the open-access journal\u00a0Risks<\/a><\/u><\/i>. Prof. Garrido is a past President of the Actuarial Section of the\u00a0<\/a>Statistical Society of Canada<\/a>, current Chair of the Academic Research Committee of the CIA\u00a0and has served on the Scientific Committee of numerous international actuarial conferences. He is active in graduate education, having supervised 40 MSc, 14 PhD and 8 post-doctoral students.<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
