Gemma obtuvo su doctorado en la Universidad de California Berkeley, y ha sido Profesor Visitante en Purdue University. Su investigación se centra en las areas de Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Nonprofit Operations, Sustainable and Socially Responsible Operations, Global Healthcare, Closed-loop Supply Chain Design.
