María José Álvarez

María José Álvarez is a Professor of Business Economics. She obtained her doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Seville, where she also obtained her degree in Economics and Business Sciences, earning the Extraordinary Award of her class. She is currently responsible for teaching Operations Management, both in undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

Her research interests revolve around five fundamental areas, which are the following: i) Total Environmental Quality Management, ii) Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, iii) Environmental Management of the Supply Chain, iv) Performance Measurement Systems, and v) Innovation and new technologies in the service sector, with special consideration of the healthcare and hospitality sectors. These five branches stem from a common trunk, which is the investigation of the Corporate Operations Strategy. María José has published in leading international journals, such as Journal of Operations Management, International Journal of Production and Operations Management, International Journal of Services Technology and Management, and the International Journal of Production Research, among others.

In close connection with her research and teaching activity, María José also collaborates with professional associations such as EUROMA or POMS, and has selflessly collaborated with prestigious international publications, forming part of the editorial board in some cases, as, for example, in Management Research, while in others she has participated as an ad hoc evaluator of important publications in the field of Operations Management, such as OMEGA; International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, or R&D Management.

Between the academic years 1994-1995 and 2003-2004, María José was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences of the Carlos III University of Madrid, being responsible for the supervision of the following degrees: Business Administration and Management, Business Administration and Management and Law, and Business Sciences. Between 1999 and 2001 she held the position of Secretary of the aforementioned Faculty.
