IX Conference on Actuarial Research – Climate Change Risk: its impact on insurance

The conference was held in person and online with numerous attendees in both cases, around 140 people attended the event, including numerous master’s program students.

Mª José Salcedo, Director of the Research Area at ICEA, and Margarita Samartín, Director of the Master’s Degree in Actuarial and Financial Sciences, were in charge of opening the session and welcoming attendees and participants.

The different presentations were then developed:

  • Carlos Crisóstomo, Student of the Master in Actuarial and Financial Sciences at UC3M: TFM- Actuarial model of the measurement of the impact of climate change on mortality and longevity risks
  • José Garrido, Emeritus Professor at Concordia University in Montreal: The North American Actuarial Climate Index and its implications for Spain and Europe
  • Francisco Espejo, Deputy Director of Studies and International Relations at the Insurance Compensation Consortium: Causes of the evolution of the accident rate due to natural risks
  • Federico Tassara, Chair Society of Actuaries Latin America Committee/Business Transformation Manager in Munich Re: Global reinsurance solutions for climate change risk
  • Eduardo Sánchez, Corporate Actuarial Director at Mapfre: Challenges of the actuary in the face of climate change
