Isabel Gutiérrez has been a Full Professor of Business Organization in the Department of Business Economics at the Carlos III University of Madrid since 1993. She holds a PhD in Business Economics from the University of Seville, where she also earned a degree in Economics and Business Sciences. She has been a tenured professor at the University of Seville and a visiting professor at Arizona State University.
Her teaching focuses on general management, organizational theory and design, in both undergraduate and doctoral courses. Her research interests are focused on organizational theory and strategic management. Her research explores temporal and spatial competitive dynamics, and their effects on the results of organizations facing radical internal innovations, institutional changes, and technological discontinuities.
Her works have been published in leading journals in the field of business management such as the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Studies or the Academy of Management Review. In addition to teaching and research, Isabel has collaborated in several journals and academic associations. She was the editor of the journal Management Research until the beginning of 2007, and has been a member of the editorial boards of the journals Journal of Management, European Management Review, Journal of Management and Governance, the Journal of High Technology Management Research, M@n@gement, Revista de Empresa, and Revista Europea de Economía y Dirección de Empresas.
She has been vice president of the European Academy of Management (2000-2007) and of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management (1998-2004). Isabel was director of the Department of Business Economics of the Carlos III University during the period 1996-2001. Currently, Isabel is the Vice-Rector of Studies at the Carlos III University.
