Sustainability Actuary

Sustainability is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the capacity of future generations, guaranteeing a balance between economic growth, care for the environment, and social well-being.

Sustainable insurance aims to reduce risk, develop innovative solutions, improve business results, and contribute to environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Actuaries, as professionals responsible for designing, reviewing, reporting, evaluating, analyzing, monitoring, and approving pricing activities, among other activities, will have a fundamental role in incorporating this new point of view into their activity and seeking the best solutions that include the objectives set out in the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

In line with this new approach is the Final Master’s Project carried out by the student Carlos Crisóstomo Mazaira entitled ā€œActuarial model of the measurement of the impact of climate change on mortality and longevity risksā€. In the words of Carlos himself: “This paper presents the first research from an actuarial point of view on the impact of climate change on mortality and longevity risks in Spain.”
