Last December, the Master's in Actuarial and Financial Sciences students had the opportunity to receive a visit from AGERS.

Agers is a non-profit business association, founded in 1894, with the vocation of representing the interests of Spanish Risk and Insurance Managers and whose main objective is to promote Risk Management.

The speaker was Cristina Martínez and she made an interesting presentation that began by explaining her professional career in which she shared her experience (more than 25 years of profession related to risk management in various companies such as Iberia or Sacyr) and commented on different examples of professional situations experienced and how her career has given her the necessary context to think that future actuaries have an interesting new professional outlet as a “Business Actuary” accompanying companies other than the banking/insurance area.

Se also emphasised to the students the importance of considering the real world and its evolving values due to the emergence of concepts such as the “permacrisis”, sustainability, AI, and “prompting” languages in order to be a competent professional. She further highlighted the necessity of cultivating skills such as communication and negotiation, while always bearing in mind that continuous learning is vital to remain relevant and achieve optimal professional development.

Finally, a question period was opened to clarify doubts and provide more information to the attendees.
