Actuarial Day: SANTALUCÍA SEGUROS

Ana García, Head of Economic Capital and Actuarial Function, made the Santalucia presentation. She began by explaining how the insurance company has been growing and that it is regulated by EIOPA and how within the company, actuaries have a place in different departments (diversity of positions and rotating tasks in a good work environment). The speaker also stopped explaining her professional profile and how she was introduced to the risk department, which is divided into 3 parts: compliance, financial risks, economic capital, and actuarial function.

Within the latter, she explained what tasks are carried out: financial reporting, capital plans (business analysis and its consequences), capital/solvency requirements, risk reports (he gave the example of sustainability in companies and how each time we want to be more “green”), product and pricing analysis, data review (quality), IFRS17…among others, providing examples of scenarios (COVID-19, Cyberattacks, Climate Change…) that have been studied within the company to find out how those losses and/or profits affect the company. In addition, she explained how digital work (calculation tools like Prophet) facilitates data processing so that they can compare large volumes of data.

She then explained that she is counting on UC3M, as well as on the company's own HR department, to recruit students with an actuarial profile who want to learn about the world of insurance risks.

Finally, a question time was opened to clarify doubts and expand information to the attendees.

The Santalucia insurance company is one of the oldest in Spain, founded in 1922. The company offers all kinds of services for individuals and companies, both life and non-life. It is the first company in the field of funeral and assistance insurance, and one of the references in home insurance.
