Actuarial Days-Máster en Ciencias Actuariales y Financieras. Mutualidad de la Abogacía

The session focused on the topic "Mutualism and Actuarial Equity."

At the presentation we had the privilege of having Fernando Ariza Rodríguez, Deputy General Director of Mutualidad de la Abogacía and, since January 29, President of the Institute of Spanish Actuaries and also a permanent member of the TFM tribunal of our master's degree. Beatriz Malpartida, Psychologist and Head of the People Department, also participated in the session.

The speakers presented Mutuality first from a more historical and humanistic point of view, combining terms such as solidarity, collaboration, risk union, and protection, with the aim that a related group can be protected in situations of need. In this way, from an ethical point of view, the origin and evolution of mutualism as a concept linked to insurance was explained. In Spain, their origins were discussed starting from the brotherhoods and passing through the Socorro brotherhoods and the Montepíos. Subsequently, they talked about what mutualism is today and what risks the actuary has to face to continue supporting the community and improving people's lives.

Other expressions of mutualism were also discussed, passing through the social or collaborative economy (for example: crowdfunding, P2P, etc.) until reaching the inclusion economy that aims to integrate the entire population into the world of insurance regardless of their income or personal and/or work situations. For this reason, it was specified that one of the challenges of the Mutual Society to meet is to reduce the protection gap based on the 3A rule (Availability, Accessibility and Affordability) with the aim of providing universal protection that must extend to both the public as well as private.

Finally, they talked about how the Mutual Society is a non-profit institution that is located among the first four insurance companies in Spain and that was founded in 1948 to meet the pension, savings and investment needs of its clients.

They currently have 210,000 mutual members and their objective remains clear: people. The occasion was also used to introduce certain characteristics about the company (departments that comprise it, internal promotion, profiles that are sought, etc.) and how the company has been growing little by little, having one of the best ratings from the workers.

Finally, a question and answer session was opened to clarify doubts and provide more information to attendees.
