The VicaCaixa reservations team on IRFS17 (Alberto Hernández, Carlos Macías, Alba Benítez, and David Coleto) and Carlos Sanz from the Human Resources department participated in the training session held last March.
First, Carlos Sanz opened the session by explaining what VidaCaixa is, its volume data, and business lines (life, savings, pension plans), as well as the different companies that make up the group, which includes a significant percentage of actuaries. He also discussed the "New Graduates Talent Program" and the selection process for entering it, as well as the community of actuaries created within the organisation to connect these professionals and help them grow within the firm.
Next, Alberto Hernández, Director of the Reserving team, began the technical session with an introduction and explanation of the scope of IFRS 17, comparing IFRS 4 and IFRS 17, discussing the level of grouping. The entire team then participated, explaining the methodological aspects (contract limits, valuation methods, discount rate, risk adjustment, Contractual Service Margin (CSM), and transition).
Finally, some examples were presented so students could better understand how IFRS-17 works and the actuary's role as a multi-skilled professional.
At last, a question period was opened to clarify doubts and provide more information.
